To see a World in a Grain of Sand
And Heaven in a Wild Flower
Hold Infinity in the palm of your hand
And Eternity in an hour…
From William Blake’s Auguries of Innocence
I paint to create moments of quiet, spaces for contemplation and introspective thought. These pieces are explorations and expressions of moments on the cusp of being, fugitive states where the divisions between space and form blur and shift. Through these visual representations I meditate on the constancy of change and the continuous thread connecting past, present and future.
In my work I explore the fugitive moment both as a visual representation and literally through my choices of materials. Silverpoint and oil paint change in appearance over time, so that even when I have finished a piece it develops on its own in response to its environment and the aging process. These changes are gradual and continuous as the passage of time itself.
